Most flowers have four main parts, and they each have an important job:

Petals – colourful parts that attract insects like bees.
Sepals – small leaf-like parts that protect the flower bud before it opens.
Stamens – the male parts that make pollen.
Carpel/Pistil – the female part where seeds are made.

So, a typical flower has 4 main parts, but some flowers may have more or fewer depending on the species.

Some flowers are incomplete, Grass flowers (weat, rice, barley, etc) have no petals and no sepals. They are very simple because they rely on the wind, not insects.

Some flowers have extra petals or other parts, which is why they look full or fluffy. For instance wild roses have 5 petals… But many garden roses have lots of extra petals (sometimes over 40!) because they’ve been bred that way.
