As long as there is mass there is always gravity. What happens when a star explode is that the energy released by the explosion overcomes the force of gravity holding the star’s outer layer and it flies off like the rubber of a balloon when it pops. Generally, the what is left of the star there is not enough energy being generate to keep it for collapsing under its own gravity into a neutron star or a black hole if big enough!
