      Looking for more sustainable materials that could be used instead of the polluting plastics packaging we have currently.

      It depends on what you mean by “young”. Under-18s couldn’t help probably at all. You’d need to finish school with science A levels and then go to University. With a science degree, you can start taking part in the effort to solve problems such as:
      Curing cancer.
      Finding drugs that eliminate parasitic and other diseases.
      Finding sources of clean, green, reliable, cost-effective energy.
      Finding metals that we need for communications and energy.
      Developing crops that thrive in harsh climatic terrains.
      Etc, etc, etc.
