I enjoyed science enough to want to study it at university. I did a physics degree, and then wasn’t done with physics, so I did a PhD, and then a load of different research jobs around the world.

My research has changed over time. I started off looking at tiny superconductors, and then tiny magnets – and then moved to looking at huge chunks of railway tracks to try and figure out how to find faults in them. This last move was to go to an area where there was a job available, but I’ve really enjoyed it so stayed working in the same research area since then.
