      I studied Biochemistry in Bristol for 4 years before moving to London for my PhD. In the past I worked with viruses but now I am working with mosquitoes.

    • My Work:

      I study mosquitoes and their DNA to try to create mosquitoes that cannot spread diseases like malaria.

    • My Typical Day:

      I usually get to work between 9:30 and 10, and have a coffe at my desk while I catch up on important emails and check my to-do list for the day.

      I usually spend half my day in the insectary where we keep all our mosquitoes, I feed them and make sure they’re happy and healthy. Sometimes we also do some experiments with them to study their behaviour.

      The rest of my day is spent in the lab where I do other experiments or at my computer to writeup my notes, look at the results I collected from my experiments or get some studying done (there’s a lot of science going on everywhere all the time so it’s important to stay up to date!)

      I often also have at least one meeting a day either with my supervisor or other lab members to discuss what we’re working on.

      When I go home depends a lot on how busy I am but anytime between 6 and 9pm usually, sometimes we go out for dinner with some colleagues and friends or I also like try to go to dance classes whenever I can.

      Sometimes we also do some experiments with teh mosquitoes to study their behaviour such as checking if they are still able to bite and drink blood, if they lay eggs, whether the eggs hatch and other things.

        What did you want to be after you left school?

        I wanted to become a researcher and help find cures and/or solution to illnesses

        Were you ever in trouble at school?

        Yes, a couple of times.

        If you weren't doing this job, what would you choose instead?

        I'd want to be a mehcnaical engineer and work on motorbikes for races like MotoGP

        Who is your favourite singer or band?

        I'm a big Kpop fan right now so probably BTS or Stray Kids

        What's your favourite food?

        Cappelletti al ragù (I'm Italian hahah)
