About Me:
I live with my wife and son in north Wales (by the beach!). I research how organisms evolve during the day. In my free time I love to go rock climbing and I coach my son’s football team (but I’m rubbish at football!).

My pronouns are:
he/him

How I use Science in my work:
I am a university lecturer in evolution and genetics, so I use science in my job everyday. Part of my job is to teach students to use genetics to understand how wild organisms evolve and how we can conserve them. The other part of my job is to do research that uses genetics to work out how new species evolve and how they can evolve to survive better in different environments. I do lots of fieldwork, lab work and analysis on a computer.
-
My Work:
I study the DNA of wild plants and animals to understand how new species evolve and adapt to survive in different places.
-
My Typical Day:
I wake up, take my son to school and then head off to work. After that it is different everyday! Sometimes, I will go in the lab or out into the field, but most days I will do some analysis of DNA data on my computer and read about the interesting research other people have been doing (so I can dream up interesting things to do myself!). I have lots of work mates that research similar things and we spend a LOT of time drinking coffee and talking about interesting ideas…then we go off and investigate them. I usually go home at 5pm…If I’m lucky I get to go climbing!
