It took me 4 years to get a Masters degree in Aeronautical engineering. Although most graduate schemes don’t require a masters degree it gave me an edge in the application process. I managed to get on my graduate scheme straight after university so I only had to wait around 4 months before starting. Switching from Aircraft to Ships was hard however I am developing a better understanding. The Maths and Physics involved with the 2 are actually quite similar.

After I left school, it took me three years to complete my Chemistry BSc (Hons), one year to complete my Digital Chemistry MSc, and now I’m in the first year of my four-year-long PhD.

Depending on who you ask, you can become a scientist as soon as you start your degree/apprenticeship, or when you graduate!
