For a job doing research in a university it depends on your level of experience. If you have an undergraduate degree or a masters degree it will vary depending on your prior experience (usually ~£20-30k). You also usually get paid to do a PhD (at the moment that’s ~£21k). If you have a PhD your starting salary would be higher (~£40k).

It really depends on the company and sector you are working in. But on average in control systems, a new graduate can get around £27k while an apprentice could start on £18k.

I earn £22,000 a year now while I am working for my PhD qualification, once I am qualified my salary should be in the £30,000s or £40,000s

My starting salary was £30k, but it really depends on which route you go, and where in the world you do Geology. In Australia i know the starting salary is much higher 80-90k AUS dollar!
