I have complicated feelings about AI – and this is mainly because it’s such a broad field that captures a lot of different types of technologies under one umbrella name (AI).

I think AI can be used as a really powerful tool for good uses, especially when it comes to making progress in scientific research. I think it’s going to massively change robotics and healthcare in good ways, and make things better and safer (like complicated surgeries and driving).

I don’t, however, like the mass-spread commercialisation and use of generative AI’s (think Large Language Models like ChatGPT or video generation like SORA). I worry about the impact GenAI has on the economy, environment, politics and social media – for example some bad uses would be influencing elections by spreading misinformation, taking artists jobs etc.

So all in all, I feel both excited and worried about the future, but I don’t believe AI will take over the world like they show in films. Instead, we need to be paying attention to how very big companies are exploiting people and the environment to push a “magical AI solution to all problems” (that definitely doesn’t exist yet, and probably won’t ever.
