I think I would try to include more recent research in science lessons to show how much we are still learning about the world, from my field in developmental biology I think it’s so amazing how much we are still learning about how human embryos grow from a single cell to a complicated human baby in only 9 months! I would also like to try and plan lessons about thinking creatively in science, like how to plan experiments that are new and exciting and how to figure out what went wrong when your experiment fails

I used to be a science teacher, so I only know the science curriculum well, but my overall thoughts are that there is too much focus on memorising things like physics equations, complex chemical analyses and biological terms, when in reality to be a good scientist or have good scientific skills in other jobs, we need curiosity, problem solving abilities and critical thinking. I think you would get this by doing more independent work and projects, but unfortunately we’d need smaller classes and more teacher time which isn’t available in schools at the moment.
