I don’t conduct research as such. I respond to chemical emergencies so my work impacts many people but not in terms of research

The research I do is quite considered quite fundamental; so, it is many steps away from directly affecting people. However, I have worked on projects that help us better understand long-term risks from natural hazards. A lot of science is like that, you add a small piece to the foundations of our understanding; over years and years that builds up to something that others can use.

I would like my research to have an effect on people. I hope that I can improve extreme weather prediction so that early warning systems improve for extreme storms. But it will take some time to do it, not an easy task.
