Polluted air affects everything in your body. We have evidence linking nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases like asthma, COPD, heart attacks, and strokes. Long term exposure can reduce life expectancy. Ultra Fine Particles have been linked to dementia and cognitive decline, diabetes and low birth weight. Children and the elderly are particularly vulnerable. Air Pollution is a social issue as most hot-spots of pollution are in areas of higer deprevation, meaning the poor are exposed to more air pollution than the rich.
