Ooh good question! Lots of things under the microscope look very strange, even everyday objects or food: like leaves, sponges, mushrooms and seaweed. But to point to something specific, I think it has to be the bugs that we found in some dust from a 14th century book. We were expecting to see some pollen, or flowers within the binding material, but the bug face looking directly at me when it was in the microscope was definitely not expected!
