My favourite frog is the Mountain Chicken Frog. This is the frog I am currently working on for my PhD. I love it because it is endangered and needs our help – so I am trying to help it!
It is a big, ugly frog and not pretty like the tree frogs and poisonous dart frogs you see sometimes. I think it gets overlooked because of this and that’s also why I love it – I really like animals that people normally think are gross! It can reach as large as 1kg in weight (about a bag of sugar!), and eats anything it can fit into it’s mouth. It lives in the Caribbean on two small islands called Dominica and Montserrat.
There are less than 100 left in the wild but you can see it at some zoos in the UK – London zoo, Chester zoo, and Jersey zoo are some of the places where it lives and is being looked after by amazing zoo keepers and scientists 🙂
