It was when I was a Geologist on a well that was drilling in the North Sea. We struck high pressured natural gas called methane. It came up out of the well very quickly and although it’s colourless and odourless, we were aware it was suddenly all around us asn the detector alarms went off. The trouble with methane is that it’s very explosive! Immediate orders were given over the loudspeakers: no smoking, no welding, no naked flames. We worked hard and quickly to overcome the high pressure and after an hour the well was declared safe. That was the scariest thing in all my years in the oil and gas industry.
