PhD applications are extremely competitive. It tooke me over 1 year (and over 25 applications) to get one. I had around 5 interviews that rejected me, some applications never even got back to me. It was really difficult to endure for so long, so I had decided that the programme I am currently in wa smy last application and I was prepared to look for actual jobs instead of PhDs.

Getting into vet school is competitive, and once you graduate, getting the job you want can also be competitive, depending on what kind of vet work you want to do/where you want to work geographically. When I was looking for my first job after graduating I probably applied for 40-50 jobs, before I got an offer – for many of these applications I didn’t even get a reply, never mind an interview! For each of my research jobs, there were lots of applicants (I don’t know exactly how many) so getting the job involved doing several interviews and tasks for each of them before I heard that I had been offered the position.
