From a physics point of view, whenever anything happens, energy is involved. For the Earth, a lot of big geological processes are powered by the heat stored within the Earth and what happens as it “tries to get out”. Plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes, all are linked to heat energy moving from the hot insides of the Earth towards the colder surface. On the surface of the Earth, energy from the Sun powers weather and life.

Yes, in various different ways – the majority of the energy for earth comes from the Sun or from the earths core (like volcanoes or geothermal energy). Most of the energy we use to power our homes or devices can be linked back either of those sources.

All the people on earth are also powered by energy! Without the sun shining on plants, they wouldn’t grow. If plants didn’t grow, we couldn’t eat them, providing us with energy. We can move about only because the sun shines on the Earth and gives plants energy to grow.
