Some people focus on making the best observations possible and collecting lots of data. Some people focus on extending theory to new questions or to solve existing questions using new mathematical or computer models. I lean more towards theory than observation, but what I try to do in my science is make sure that I am building a link between the theory and the observations.

My research is purely theoretical. All I need is a piece of paper and a pen. Sometime a laptop to do simulations, but not always. This is very different from physicists or chemists running experiments in a lab, because they can’t do that on the beach, but I can if I want!
