• Question: Hi my name is Lucy we just learnt about the evolutions and how were homo sapients but why is one of the evolutions called Lucy?

      Hi Lucy, you have a beautiful name that inspires people!

      While the archaeologists were discovering the bones belonging to a relative of homo sapiens, they were listening to a song called “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” by the Beatles. So they decided to name her Lucy 🙂

      Later on, two more names were given, one for scientific reasons (AL 288-1) as well as one with a great meaning in a different language: Dinkʼinesh, meaning  ’you are marvellous’

    Domniki is right in the reason for the choice of Lucy, but it was also a very happy coincidence. Deriving from latin for light or light bringer, Lucy was an excellent choice of name for a for an individual who’s discovery brought such light to darkness of human evolution at the time of her discovery.
