• Question: Do you remember anything about vetinary stuff?

      Absolutely! I use my veterinary degree all the time, even if i am not directly treating animals, i use the biology and clinical knowledge both in my work, but also in my home life. Whenever i go to the doctor, they always ask me “are you medically trained”, because i understand what they are talking about lot more than most people would, and also speak like a doctor too!! My last big research project was on horse tendons (the bits of your body that attach muscles to bones and make your body move). I recon i could still do a pretty good job of stitching up a wound, and my friends still ask me for veterinary advice even though i don’t work as a vet in practice any more.

    Definitely! Like Charlotte, I use my veterinary degree a lot in many different ways, because the skills and knowledge are not simply about treating an individual sick animal. For example, how to approach diagnosing a problem or some of the key illnesses. I certainly don’t remember all of it – you know the phrase ‘use it or lose it’ , I’ve forgotten some of the things I learned about species of animals that I’ve not worked with for a long time (as an example, guinea pigs, if somebody asked me about their guinea pig I’d say ‘ask your own vet’ as I’d have to look up lots of information about the illnesses that affect them, the medicines which are useful/not useful for them).
