I love science! I always have. I love the fact that it helps me make sense of the world – my brain has always wanted to know “why” stuff works and science helps me explore that. I go to schools to speak to people about light. I work with x-rays, and x-rays work in the same kind of way to how x-rays work, so if you can understand how a torch can make a shadow, you can understand how an x-ray image is formed. I love speaking to people in schools because the excitement on everyones face when you do a cool experiment is awesome!
I’ve always liked science since I was a kid. I’ve always wanted to understand how things work and how they are put together even to the extent of dissembling my Rubic’s cube rather than playing with it. As an academic and research scientist, I’ve come to realise that it’s not all about finding out new stuff but you must be able to explain it. I’ve done that over the yiears by giving talks in schools and online. Since my major research interest is trying to understand the role of chemistry in space in making complicated molecules that has become a focus of my public engagement activities.
Science is great. There are so many things in science still to discover and then comes the fun part of trying to figure out how it works and why. My special interest in science is Physics and Astronomy (space) but I loved chemistry too in Highschool and College.
I go into schools with an inflatable planetarium and take people on a journey through the sky, constellations and some of the things telescopes have observed. Sharing science is important to be able to inspire new generations and put out minds together to try figure new things out.
Yes, I like science and I like talking to people about it in all kinds of places (not only at school). Some people can be a bit shy at first, especially if they don’t/didn’t get good marks in science exams when they were at school. However, they often have a particular subject, like space 🚀 (e.g. sci-fi movies), or plant life 🌱 (e.g. gardening), that they really think is cool! I find it fun to talk with people about the kind of science they like.
Yes, I like science and often speak about it. I don’t go to schools to talk about science, but I am happy to talk about it whenever people ask me or when I attend science-focused events for school students. I realise that the majority of people don’t know what scientists do from day to day, so it is nice to talk about that too, and I especially get asked a lot about space and aliens!
