I left school at 16 and studied part time on ‘day release’ from work – finishing up with a Masters in Instrumental Analytical Chemistry. I’m very keen on learning new things and that’s why I like to travel – mostly around the UK ππ¬π§. I love ruined castles and sunny beaches!

How I use Science in my work:
Science is at the heart of everything I do. You might have learned about the senses in biology, or flavour chemicals in chemistry, or data analysis in computer science – that’s what I work on every day.
-
My Work:
I help companies create products that delight the purchaser – products that look good, taste good, smell good and work well.

I might help a company choose people to assess their new plant-based food products, help them design experiments to find out which are the best ingredients for a new shampoo, analyse data to decide on the next product launch, or train their staff in sensory science.
-
My Typical Day:
I work from home pretty much every day, working at the computer or joining online meetings. No day is the same as another – there’s always something new to learn! πππ‘ If I visit a client, I might be helping train people to describe food products, presenting some results or planning new research projects.

-
What I'd do with the prize money:
I would use it to spread the word about sensory science as a career – no-one seems to know what it is and it is the best! ππ―
