I work for Ordnance Survey as a ground capture surveyor. I make changes to the national map of geospatial data (new houses, schools, roads). I also apply my technical skills to other geospatial problems, recently helping the City of Kinshasa prepare and respond to flooding. Alongside these 2 elements I find ways to improve how we do things using continuous improvement techniques.

My Typical Day:
One thing I like about my job is that every day is different.
Usually I will take my dog for a run and then drop my daughter at nursery before starting work. I might go out to add new information to the national map, using a GPS receiver, tablet and measuring tools. Some days I spend analysing data to find ways to improve how we work. I also use my geography skills to solve other problems – I recently worked on a project to help the Democratic Republic of Congo respond to flooding and climate change risks.

What I'd do with the prize money:
I would use the money to run workshops for young people on how Ordnance Survey uses geography, science and technology to help everyone who lives in Great Britain and inspire the future generation of geographers and scientists.
