• Question: Is being a scientist needed in being a astronaut and has it got to do with anything in space

      You don’t have to be a scientist but it helps! And there are lots of astronauts who’s science background isn’t about space, think about biology and medicine and people who know the science about how to grow plants! Fighter jet pilots make good astronauts too, and people who have experience in extreme environments, like people who’ve worked in Antarctica maybe or in the jungle

      Astronauts have been doctors, teachers, engineers, geologists, chemists, biologists….the common element is they all have a sense of adventure and they all like finding things out.
      In the space programme itself there are lawyers, chef, mechanics, artists, computer programmers, administrators, builders…… if you can think of a job someone does on Earth, there will be a role in space too!
