This is actually a great question, that is very tough to answer! Science affects every aspect our everyday lives, so much so that you could pick up anything in your home and be able to say “Yep, science either made this, or made it better!”.

Medicinal science keeps us alive longer, has given us vaccines for diseases like measles, antibiotics for infections, technology for things like X-rays and MRI scans to see our broken bones and help doctors diagnose our problems.

Everything with a screen owes itself to science, including the thing you’re using to read this! Mobile phones, laptops, and the internet rely on physics and computer science, satellites allow GPS, weather forecasts, and global communication.

Cars, trains, and planes rely on physics and engineering, and fuels and electric batteries come from chemistry, so anytime you take the bus to school or fly somewhere on holiday, that’s science again.

Science also gives us better foods, a big positive in my opinion. Fertilisers and pesticides improve crop yields, food preservation (freezing or packaging) keeps food safe, and understanding nutrition helps us maintain a healthy diet. All of this comes from our understanding of biology.

Environmental science and meteorology help us predict the weather, so you know whether to take a coat or not. They also help us tackle issues like climate change, keeping our water and air clean.

Pretty much everything you touch is the result of scientific development. Plastics, metals, glass, and fabrics are designed using chemistry and materials science!

So, to summarise, science affects every single aspect of our every day lives, and the massive amount of science that we still do today aims to improve on this. This could be batteries that last longer, materials that clean air and water better, or something small but useful, like better water proofing for coats.
