I think it’s hard to say who is the best… everyone has their amazing work but also their flaws at the same time, we’re all humans at the end of the day. I have been inspired by Brian Cox, Jim Al-Khalili and Katherine Johnson growing up!

Every scientist, no matter how big or small their contribution, is helps us understand the world and the universe around us, so they’re all cool! Personally I’m a big fan of Jocelyn Bell Burnell who discovered pulsars, stars that act like cosmic clocks because they rotate very accurately.

That’s a bit like asking “what’s the best place to live”! As a Geologist, my top two are Charles Darwin, who formulated the theory of evolution and William Smith, who understood the basic principles of geology and published the first geological map of England and Wales, in fact, of anywhere in the world.

A very difficult question as thankfully we have plenty of choices. I’m always in awe of chemists doing research in a time before modern analytical techniques, so I’d pick Marie Curie who rose from humble beginnings and not only made key contributions to our understanding of radioactivity but also discovered two element along the way!
In a glittering scientific career she was awarded two Nobel prizes. She was also able to not only understand the science but also apply it in the real world when she developed ‘Petits Curies’ – small mobile xray units which she herself took to the front to help the injured, a technology which is still used in modern medicine.

There are so many brilliant scientists, however my all time favourite is David Attenborough. I remember watching his documentaries since I was a child and I still find his work fascinating!
