I am on a training programme and therefore I do a lot of different things at the moment. For the past month, I have been helping people with disabilities that affect how well they are able to move their arms and hands to access their TVs, computers and phones with special devices.
When I am in the office, like this week, I am doing a lot of work to help the hospital buy the most suitable devices for people in the hospital. At the moment that means I am comparing the beds that people get in hospital to see which ones are the best.
I have also looked at how safe these devices are, especially if they are new devices which haven’t been used on people before.
Though it varies day to day here is some of the things I’ve done this week:
I’ve grown anaerobic (no oxygen) bacteria that smell like rotten eggs
I’ve anaylsed samples to find out what metals are in them
I’ve used a high magnification microscope to look at bacteria
I’ve made solutions of acids and poison
I’ve read a lot of research papers of other peoples work
I’ve welcomed a new student into my lab and helped them settle in
I’ve given a report to my colleagues about my latest experiments
I’ve had to write all the above things up in my lab book
I’ve drank a lot of coffee….
