I studied geography at GCSE and A-Levels which led me to also do it at university. When I was there I got the chance to visit glaciers in Iceland and work with some brilliant glaciologists! This really inspired me to carry on with my master’s and PhD in glaciology.

I did Geograhpy at GSCE and A-level, then realised that there was a degree path called Geology that meant I could just study the more ‘physical geography’ topics. During my master’s year at univeristy I had a module using electron microscopy and then my independent research project also used electron microscopy and automated techniques to analyse rocks. I feel in love with this way of looking at the world on the microscale, with a more creative spin on it. I decided that I wanted to use elctron microscopy in my job and was fortunate enough that after I graduated a Job as an electron microscopy technician in geosciences came up and I was hired for it!

I did an EPQ project on deep sea organisms and how they survive without sunlight and became really interested in ocean science. I discovered you could do a degree in Oceanography and coupled with my interest in chemistry and biology I developed my interests throughout my degree, leading to my undertaking of a PhD in ocean chemistry which led to the job I am in now.

I went to uni to study Geophysics and I really enjoyed fluid dynamics, so I ended up doing lots of research projects in that. I also did an internship at a company looking at catastrophe modelling and its impact on financial losses. I realised that I prefer research and decided to pursue a PhD in ocean-atmosphere modelling. During my PhD, I fell in love with my discipline and realised I want to become a professor. I work now as a post-doc at a university 🙂
