I don’t study dinosaurs very much, but my colleagues who do think there were between 1000 and 2000 species of dinosaurs alive during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. However, as we now know that birds are dinosaurs, we should probably say there were thousands of species of avian (bird) and non-avian dinosaurs, and there still are thousands of species of avian dinosaurs alive on Earth today!
