Yes, from a very young age I knew that I wanted to do something science related but I did not want to be stuck in a lab ding something that I could not see impacted the real world. When my first job came up (where I still work but in a more senior position), it seemed a perfect fit!

I have always loved science, but I didn’t always know it was what I could/would do as a job. I also loved art and social studies at school, but I decided to pursue a career in science because I thought it would give me the widest range of opportunities. You can do many jobs that are not science related with a science degree because of all the transferrable skills!

I think becoming a scientist was the right choice for me because I love problem solving, working in a team, and don’t like sitting down! I get to do lots of exciting experiments in the lab and discuss the results with my colleagues. It is also really important to me to feel like I’m making a difference – and working in an area that is trying to mitigate climate change fulfills that.

Yes… At primary school I was always taking things apart and putting them back together to find out how they worked. My teachers in P6 and P7 encouraged this and I realised that I enjoyed exploring how and why questions. That curiosity still drives me today.

I’ve always loved science, but I first went to University to study Silversmithing and Jewellery design. I got back into science in my late 20’s and studied and trained to become a scientist then.
